Sexuality through the Lifespan: How Therapists Can Support the Sexual Health of Those They Serve
This workshop will educate therapists on the importance of sexual health on the overall satisfaction and well-being of the people they serve from cradle to the grave. Therapists will learn what they can do to feel comfortable and support communication and dialogue with their clients about sexuality.
- To demystify sex therapy and the role of sex therapist
- To educate therapists on the importance of sexual health throughout the lifespan
- To assist non-sex therapists in understanding their critical role as front line providers and gatekeepers for sexual health and growth for their clients and what they can do
- To encourage open dialogue between therapists and clients about sexuality and sexual health
- To learn how therapists can assist clients in achieving better sexual health and satisfaction
- To provide exercises for therapists to open up dialogue about sexuality and sexual health
- To provide a resource list for therapists for continued learning
Jennifer Wiessner is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and certified Sex Therapist. She was Maine’s only female American Association for Sex Educators, Counselors and Therapists (AASECT) certified sex therapist in 2012 whose Cumberland, Maine-based private practice focuses on achieving healthy sexuality for her individual and couple clients. Jennifer also created and facilitates the Raising Sexually Healthy Children workshops series.
Jennifer's goal is to assist those with sexual dissatisfaction to experience the joys of healthy intimacy and sexual health. Jennifer currently works with couples and individuals and provides consultation sessions for parents, providers and therapists wishing to encourage developmentally healthy sexuality in their children and the children they serve as well as adult clients.
In addition, Jennifer has participated in advanced trainings in sexuality including being a participant and only therapist of the inaugural class of the Sexual Health Scholars Program for medical students conducted by the American Medical Students Association in 2010 and has created local workshops to support healthy sexuality here in Maine. Jennifer has been on radio, TV, podcasts, online and print magazines. Jennifer is passionate about educating the community and conducts workshops all over Maine on Raising Sexually Healthy Children for parents, educators and providers. Jennifer is a wife and mother of two boys.

*This workshop is on the second floor requiring a flight of steps.
Certificates will be given for 4 contact hours. You must be present from 9-1PM to receive full credit This workshop has been done through the NASW Maine in the past for credit. CE’s cannot be pre-approved. Check with your local licensing board.
